Resilience

Here we are, in this moment when everyone is dealing with the same problem. And it’s wearing all of us down in whatever way it does. That’s the thing about being alive. It’s intense.

In many ways, life is easier than it’s ever been. We have technology and tools that provide a stable food supply, potentially endless energy, and to see in real time those who do not have those things.

It’s such a fragile thing that has some of us on top and some of us barely hanging on. Circumstances could be reversed and life is so much more fickle than anyone ever wants to admit.

I don’t know of any way to predict how the future will turn out, and I think we can all agree that the best laid plans can (and are) easily derailed by forces beyond our control.

But today, all we have to do is put one foot in front of the other. Maybe it’s just 5 pushups, or maybe you take the guitar out of the garage and set it up. Maybe you crack open the manuscript and just give it a glance. Call one person and tell them you love them. I think we all forget sometimes. And even if we don’t, it’s almost always nice to hear.

The fact that you are reading this shows that you’ve made it this far in the Story of You. You are the definition of resilience.

Just for today, take a couple small steps. Repeat that long enough and you’ll string together a way of life.
